Cannot install Graphic card and Monitor on XP Pro

I was forced to reinstall windows xp pro in a repair mode; it kept giving me
a blank screen on the LCD monitor after I increased the resolution, the safe
mode and all others did not respond!
Now the display shows the adapter as VgaSave described as non plug and
play, and default monitor. No drivers are showing for both, I have an ATI
XT800 which is refusing to install and a Dell LCD, with no display or a
monitor on hardware profile to update. The safe mode still refuses to work.
Help!

Do you have the Dell Installation CD with the AGP and LCD Drivers?

I would suggest that you either use that one or download the files from
Dell's webpages and install their drivers.

"...after I increased the resolution" ... Modern monitors (either LCD or
LCD) have built-in circuitry to prevent you from destroying them when you
try to drive them beyond their capabilities (either resolution or refresh
rate). Essentially, when queried by Windows, they report "no monitor
attached".

The normal method of recovery from trying to kill you monitor is to boot
into Safe mode and change the resolution back to a safe level. However,
since you have skipped that step and performed a re-install, that is
obviously not an option.

Try this:
Set both the resolution and the refresh rate to low values, then use Device
manager to remove both the video card and the monitor. Reboot and see if
Windows recognizes and installs the correct drivers for the hardware.
