Windows XP Pro, SP2:

As my fax service didn't work I wanted to reinstall it. So I uninstalled it
(Control panel - Software) but have now the problem, that Windows cannot
install it again. Windows stops during installation with the message "File
fxscom.dll cannot be copied" (translated from German).

It wants to copy the file from the "c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386"
directory. The file is in fact there. It is also in the system32 and
dllcache directory where it boviously is protected because whenever I try to
delete it there it will be automatically created again.

Any hints?

Christian

Hi,

Delete it from the dllcache folder first, then the system32 directory. Then
try manually extracting the file from the I386 directory.

Hi Rick,

that doesn't really help as the files are recreated after a couple of
seconds. But as the files are already in the system32 directory always
cancelled the copy request and could so finish the installation process.
BUT - now the installation is finished and still no fax available (also no
checkmark in the software dialog) see new thread (Cannot install fax
service)

Regards,
Christian
