Cannot get ">>" to precede original message in HTML

Hosh

Outlook 2003

I would like to have ">>" precede the text of the original message I am
replying to while in HTML format.
I have gone to TOOLS>OPTIONS>EMAIL OPTIONS and have chosen to prefix all
lines of original messages with ">>".

The thumbnail picture changes to reflect the change took place, but I still
just a vertical blue bar to the left of the document when I try to reply.

If I insert reply text in between line of the original text, there is
nothing that distinguishes it from the original.

Any help would be great!
Thanks.

the >> are only for plain text messages. The blue bar is used for HTML. You
can't change it.

I was afraid of that, Thanks!

I would imagine that the option should be grayed out when I choose HTML as
the format. That would make it clear as opposed to letting me wonder what's
not working or what I'm doing wrong.

Would you have a suggestion as an alternative method for replying to HTML
that indicates the difference between the original text and the reply?

Thanks again!

Format the text in a different colour.

It has nothing to do with your mail format settings -it has to do with the
format people use when they send you email.

If you use Word as your editor, it can reply with different color text each
time and you can enable the option in Outlook to include your name or
initials between []. It's on the same dialog you used to set the >>.
