We have several users that have been getting a "Cannot find file xyz.xl
(or one of its components)..." when they try to launch an xls Excel fil
from Windows explorer or an icon. Sometimes the users are using th
files ok and then the next time they go in and try to launch the files
this message appears. We use a tool called Installshield to updat
their files and install any new xls files. Is there a reason why w
may be getting this message? This file actually does exist

Sometimes one of these works:

Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it)

--- or ---

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Thank you for your response on how this can be fixed. Do you have any
ideas of why this may be happening to some people? Any suggestions on
what the cause could be?

I don't know why it happens. I think it's happened to me once or twice.

But it's a common question in the newsgroups (which isn't really too comforting!).
