cannot find downloaded pix

I downloaded pictures from my digital camera into the
picture wizard, then it deleted them from my camera,
created a file for the pictures and now when I open the
file - there aren't any pictures in there !!! Now I lost
them all!! They had to go somewhere and I tried all of
the picture programs and no luck - anyone have a clue as
to where I can recover my pictures from
