Cannot Explore My Computer?

My friend is using Windows XP Home Edition, and cannot open any windows explorer files such as My Computer or My Documents. Instead, the desktop crashes and reboots. However, she is still able to use .exe programs such as AOL Instant Messenger and her DSL service. Any ideas?
