Cannot Expand Distribution List In BCC Field

When I try to expand a distribution list in the BCC field (Outlook 2003) I
get an error message indicating "Cannot Perform The Requested Operation. The
Command Selected For This Request Is Not Valid. The Operation Failed."

Any help is appreciated.
 
In what view?
What happens in the To: or CC: fields?
