someone else has a fix to this VERY VERY annoying
problem.....i CANNOT close out any internet pages with
out using task mgr.
please help!

Adrian,
There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite)

Download, install, *update* and run these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
If those two programs don't fix the problem, run
CWShredder from http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads.php

Additional information, including security tips, at:

Less likely, but you may have to uninstall/reinstall a program which
interacts with IE (anti-virus, security, ad blocker, etc)

Hope this helps,
Don

I to had a similiar problem. If you are using XP Home Addition this will probably work for you also
1. Start Internet Explorer 6
2.Click on "Tools"; Internet Options
3. Click on the "Advanced" tab
4. Cursor down to the line saying "Java (Sun)
5. Uncheck the box saying "Use Java 2 v....
6. Restart Windows and try Internet Explorer, you should be able to close the program using the "X" box in the upper right corner of the window or any other way you normally close the Browser
Good Luck

"Doc Watson" thanks for your feedback. I'm sure it will help others.

There is also some parasites that will cause this restriction.

This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware, parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.

Hi,

The following may work:

1) Click on Start, then Run (Run dialog box opens).

2) Type: "regsvr32 urlmon.dll" (without the quotes), and press enter.

Does this remedy the situation?

| Have you found out how to close your internet explorer--I am having the same
problem.

I too am having this problem. I rang Microsoft suport and was told to uninstall and re-install - did'nt work for me. If you find a cure please let me know.

Check for parasites.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
