Cannot enable call waiting

I only have one phone line right now and want to be
disconnected when a phone call comes through. I un-checked
the "disable call waiting" box but still have am not
being "bumped" offline for calls. Any suggestions?

The tone produced from the call waiting may not bump you
off at all. The phone system has no clue of the type of
call you are on while you are online. Remember that for
call waiting to work you can't really hang-up or both
calls will be would be potentially lost. What you need is
a special service that shows you on your screen that a
call is coming through (visual call waiting) contact your
ISP and your phone company for more info.

what could I be doing wrong. How difficult is it
to "unclick" a square ?! Thanks.
