i am trying to delete a file from my server but it keeps
telling that "there is a sharing violation. the file is
being used by another process." i made sure that the
program that was using the file is closed and i checked
in the task manager as well. i have all the neccesary
rights to delete the file but it refuses to. i do not
want to reboot the server. is there any way to figure
out which process is using the file and/or just simply
delete it?

thanks

Try taking ownership of the file. If that does not work, try booting into
safe mode and deleting it.

thanks Criss, but i already have ownership of the file and i do not want to
reboot the server. i am trying to find an laternative to rebooting.

Karl

have you tried deleting it from a CMD prompt or even via a network
shared drive?
