Cannot Delete Recover Point

If i wanna delete SOME of the recover points (that is, it's up to me to
decide which to preserve and which to delete.),
What should i do?

Because some recover points Vista has built seem to be useless
( they are automatically built when i install some trivial software),
and i only want to keep at most 2 of my user-created points.

Help me please. (and my hard-disk)

I don't know where you can see a list of restore points to choose from for
deletion. If you use START, ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, SYSTEM TOOLS, CLEAN
UP, OTHER OPTIONS tab you can delete all but the last two Restore Points.
My McAffee Security Suite also has a Cleaner program than will delete all
but the last restore point.
If you want to pick and choose from a list I'd search for a 3rd party
shareware program.

Hi,

You can't selectively delete restore points. Disk cleanup can remove all but
the most recent, and altering the percentage of disk space allowed will
delete old ones, but that's it. There is no functionality for the user to
choose which ones to keep and which to delete.

Hi,

Qfreed, you can find the list of restore points by going through
"Backup and restore center -> Repair windows using system restore -> choose
a different restore point".

And... Rogers, thanks for your answer.
I found that using 'vssadmin resize shadowstorage' can delete some tailing
VSSs, so there must be some way to delete them selectively, and might
there're also some tools to achieve this goal.
I'm now on my best to find this tool.
If you have any suggestion, please do no hesitate to tell me

Hi,

Vssadmin is useful for resizing, but it can't be used to selectively remove
restore points. The answer remains unchanged as there is no provision for
that.

So, why ms didn't give us a option?
If i can delete them all but the lastest one, why i cannot keep another one?
Based on this thought, I personally believe this is not a technical problem,
am i right?

Hi,

I'm not going to get too technical here, but suffice it to say that it isn't
going to happen, nor is Microsoft going to rewrite their utility to
accomodate it. And yes, it would require a rewrite. Think FIFO when it comes
to the way the points are stored and indexed by the utility. You can't yank
something out of the middle of the stack and have it remain the same.

Link seems to work fine now, server must've been glitchy. Haven't updated
anything there in a while.

helpful ideas. Thanks.
Well, i shall not go to have those recover points deleted like you said.
So, this problem is ultimately solved.

But, unfortunately, that link is still invalid.
Maybe this is another annoying problem for me.
(nslookup returns its ip as 72.14.207.191,
but the IE just cannot get connected to it. Any idea?)
