Cannot delete messages in out box

I have MS XP OS, and Office 2002. With outlook 2002, I
have 3 messages that I cannot delete. I get "The
messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the
problem persists, restart Outlook." restarting does not
work, and I have loaded the oputlook patch.

I've had that happen and my solution was to create a new PST, make it the
default delivery location, and move to it everything from the old PST I
wished to keep, after which I closed and deleted the old PST.
