When I try to delete messages from my deleted items folder it tells me that

This often means an antivirus program has caused problems in Windows
Mail.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

It's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, but also works in other
folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the
64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Certain common
antivirus programs, such as most from Norton or McAfee, or a
recent one from Trend, tend to cause such problems, although
not immediately. If you keep such a program, remember where
to find the fix, since you are likely to need it again.

A lot of this is incorrect. I did not have any antivirus program in my
previous Vista Business but got this problem. Also this alleged fix does
nothing to alleviate or correct it.

For me the problem remained unresolved until I was forced to reinstall
Vista. This time I chose Ultimate. Now everything works but I wonder what
the real remedy is since there is always a possibility that the problem will
come back.

It works for most of the people who have such a problem.

I'm out of ideas, then.
