Please help . . . cannot delete email from Deleted Items. After clicking Yes
to the "are you sure prompt" , a box comes up saying "An unknown error has
occurred."

Thank you so much Gary. It worked like a charm. It deleted something stuck
in my outbox and also was able to delete a mail delivery failure that has
been in my inbox for two months. Thank you, thank you. Barb

Download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version of the hotfix first.
Certain common antivirus programs, such as most of those from
Norton or McAfee, tend to cause stuck messages and other problems
in Windows Mail, although seldom immediately, so if you have such a
program, remember where to find the hotfix and hope it will install
again if you need it again. A recent version of the Trend antivirus
program also causes various problems in Windows Mail.

I followed all the boxes that popped up but for some reason the install one
nevercame up. so i tried downloading again and this time the install box did
come up so it is now installed and the message is gone.
Thank you
Karen

I see your second install attempt was successful.
From multiple reports we know that hotfix is very effective at what it does.

Problems caused by interference from an antivirus program aren't reported
well, and often come up as unknown errors. What if any antivirus programs
do you have?

For a temporary fix, download and install this hotfix, with Windows Mail
not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether you have a 32-bit version
of Vista or a 64-bit version, try the hotfix for the 32-bit version
first.
