Cannot delete a shortcut

Ron Yuen

Hi,

I created a shortcut for a website the other day and now I cannot delete it!
I get an error message saying: "Cannot delete file: the filename you
specified is invalid or too long. Specify an different filename." When I try
to rename the file, it comes back with the same error. No matter what I try
to do, move, cut, drag to recycle bin, it always comes back with the same
error! How do I get rid of this bad boy? Thanks in advance!

Make a new folder, slide it into the folder, and nuke the folder.

Run the disc check tool that ships with win2k. Run it on the partition that
the file is on.

Hi Ron - Delete Invalid File, below, is probably what you need, but try them
all.

A program called Copylock, here,
http://noeld.com/programs.asp?cat=misc#CopyLock can aid in the process of
"replacing, moving, renaming or deleting one or many files which are
currently in use (e.g. system files like comctl32.dll, or virus/trojan
files.)"

Another is Killbox, here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip

A third which is a bit different but often useful is Delete Invalid File,
here: http://www.purgeie.com/delinv.htm which handles invalid/UNC
file/folder name deleting, rather than the in use problem.
