Cannot create folder/file with same name as computer name!

I am working on a notebook with computer name COM1, running WinXP SP2 with
all patches from windowsupdate applied, in workgroup environment.

The problem is I can't create folder name COM1 on this notebook. When create
new folder, its name is "New Folder". After changing to COM1 and press
"Enter", it reverts back to New Folder anyway.

Also when create file name like "COM1.txt", Windows complains that the file
with same name already exist!

Anyone have an idea what's going on here? My desktop PC can do this, but
notebook can't!

What operating system is the desktop PC running? If not an NT-based
system (Win2k, XP) that would explain it.

The simple answer is - don't name your computer, user accounts, files,
folders something that is reserved by the operating system. There is no
need to do this and it will only cause problems.

I just realised COM# is a reserved word... My desktop is named COM11, no
wonder there was no problem... Just to place the blame on someone else,
Windows should not let user name the computer using reserved words! ;-)

This problem comes up because VS.NET tries to create folder using computer
name when I tried to create a Web project and fails.

Thank you
