"Cannot create directory" message while installing

I'm trying to install Reader Rabbit toddler (version 3.0)
for my grandsons - it gets to 14% and stops, displaying
the message - "cannot create directory - File name: *.*"

I ripped the manufacturers website trying all their so
called fixes, spent an hour on the phone with their tech
support, and the best they could come up with was that it
was a bad disk. Took it back to Circuit City, exchanged
for another copy, exact same error. Have searched all
newsgroup messages through google, and can find nothing.
Manufacturer said it was because I was not an
administrator, but I am, and have never had a problem
installing anything. I've had a lot of experience fixing
flaky kids games for others, but this one has me
stumped. Game box says it's XP compatible... and I
disabled firewalls and Norton anti-virus.

System facts:
Dell 2.4 ghz - 120 gig hd - 512 megs ram
Windows XP Pro
ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 7500
Soundblaster Live Value

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

Jan, try creating a directory on the hard drive and then copying ALL the CD
to the directory. Attempt the install from there. And when you post
information about this issue, please keep it in this thread. It is much
easier to track it, even if you're using the web-based newsgroup interface
as you are instead of a news reader like Outlook Express.

Fixing "Cannot create directory" error while installing

This error is caused by a file permissions problem with the directory:
c:\Documents and Settings\All Users

It appears to occur on XP Pro machines which have simple file sharing turned on.

Here is how to fix:
Go to "My Computer"
Click "Tools"
Click "Folder Options"
Select the "View" tab
At the bottom of the advanced settings window de-select "Use simple file sharing"
Click "OK"

Go to "Documents and Settings"
Right click "All Users"
Click on "Properties"
Select the "Security" tab
Click the "Advanced" button
Select "Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects"
Click "OK"
Click "Yes" in the confirmation dialog

Reinstall "Reader Rabbit"

If "Reader Rabbit" tries to run instead of reinstalling:
Right click the drive containing the CD and click "Explore"
Open the "INSTALL" folder
Double click "_Setup.exe" to start installer.

Enjoy
