Cannot Copy Files to CDs

In Windows Explorer I get the error message: "Windows encountered a
problem when trying to copy this file." I can copy the files using Nero
6. I see this message has been posted here by a number of users, all
threads reaching a dead end. I have no problem with the workaround of
simply using Nero 6 -- it's just as easy -- but would like to know
what's not working right. Am wondering if it's because Nero 6 is
installed and prevents Windows Explorer from copying files to CDs.

Not much to go on is there?
But you can find out if the solution you suggest works easily enough can't
you? Uninstall Nero.

I'm no tekkie, but last I was aware, Windows Explorer
doesn't have a CD burning feature.

The error you are getting is likely Windows telling you that
it can't copy / write a file to the CD drive.

If you have software that works (Nero), then you have
software that works.

Good luck!

This is incorrect. Windows XP does have the built-in ability to burn
CD's. The built-in burning service has been turned off by Nero. If the
OP wishes to use it instead of Nero (not something I would recommend
since Nero has far more options), then s/he should uninstall Nero.

The problem is intermittent. Today, Internet Explorer is copying files
to CDs, and the error message is not coming up. I think this has
something to do with interference from Nero 6, but can't be sure.
Yesterday, I restarted the computer (though not a cold start), but the
error message came up again. So, it looks like this thread is at a dead
end, too. I agree with Alan, that I should use Nero 6 for all copying
to media, and use Windows Explorer for its basic function -- a filing
cabinet, as it was called in earlier Windows versions.
