I am trying to set up simple file and printer sharing. I cannot get the
shares to work. I can ping the computer fine, but cannot connect to the
computer name through windows. I tried to set up a Mira Smart Display, and
had the same problem with a similar error:

Your Smart Display was able to connect to your computer using the IP
address, but cannot connect using the computer name.
The problem may be your firewall or another network issue. If you have a
firewall, please see the documentation that accompanied your firewall.

Thanks!

And do you have a firewall? As far as the file and printer sharing goes,
make sure you've added the IP range as trusted in the firewall's
configuration. I'm not sure about the Mira Smart Display, but it would
be something similar. Look on the mftr.'s website and see if you need
to open any special ports. Otherwise, just add the Mira executable to
the Exceptions or as Trusted. How you do this depends on the firewall
you're using.

I have turned off the windows firewall, and have nothing else running. I have
run out of ideas, but I am pretty sure the issue is related to the inability
to resolve the computer name, for what ever reason. You don't need to run
WINS anymore to resolve,, right?

Don't you have an identical thread going somewhere else? You've already
gotten answers there. Search on your name.
