Cannot connect with some programs XPSP2

Hi,
I'm at the end of my rope :-(. Got a cable with router and XP SP 2. Can not
get a connection with some programs (eg Mailwasher, Winamp 3.005)
Tried : go without router (direct to cable modem [sb 5100 surfboard], turned
off the fire wall, installed WindowsXP-KB884020-x86-enu.exe, cleared the
cache in IE. And yes I re booted the machine .
Is there any thing I should try bevore un installing SP2?

yes, I'm actually in Germany, but in this newsgroup we should
stick to English, so others can benefit.

Have you looked at the web site or otherwise solved the problem?
The web site very likely has your solution. (There's no German
version of it.)
