Cannot Connect to the internet with programs

I am using windows vista home premium, and I can connect to the internet with
my AIM, and Internet Explorer and Netscape.
Whenever I try to connect to the internet to register my copy of office it
says no connection found, and it does the same with outlook, and when I tried
to install Thuderbird and firefox. None of my programs will allow me to
connect to the internet and it makes it very hard to use my computer and
install programs that use the internet when it won't connect.
If anyone has any clue what this might be I would appreciate it.

how do you connect to the internet? dialup? ethernet? router?
do you have a firewall blocking connections?

have you checked for trojans/viruses that have compromised your
system?

I connect to the internet using my wireless DSL Router. I do not have a
firewall in place on my computer and as far as I know I have no viruses or
trojans that could compromise my computer. My norton internet security is
installed on my computer and I have actually been trying to remove it but it
will not remove for some reason that I am also trying to work out.
I just keeping get an error from all the programs I use except internet
explorer and netscape saying that I am nto connected to the internet when I
have no problem going to websites.

It certainly sounds like Norton Internet Security is your problem
here. Here is the info for removing NIS 2007

If that fails, I believe that Norton/Symantec support has a stand
alone removal tool you can obtain (check their support site).
