cannot connect to router

Carl Davis

Hey all,

I have an Dell laptop (Win 2000) with a linksys network
card, D-Link router. My problem is that I can't get to the
internet. One day I could, the next I couldn't and still
can't. Basically, the autoconfig setting is giving me some
weird IP address. nothing that is close to what the router
should be giving. Also, the subnet mask (I think that is
what I need to be referring to it as) is showing
255.255.0.0, when it should be 255.255.255.0.

If I manually set the ip and such I can ping my router but
cannot access it. I cannot however ping anything else.

I tried a different network card and reinstalling the
driver for the original card but to no avail.

Thanks

Carl

use IPCONFIG /flushdns
Then use IPCONFIG /registerdns

Might solve your problem.. Was your weird ip address and
apipa? 169.***.***.***

I did that, but the everything stayed the same. I even
tried ipconfig /release and /renew but it didn't want to do
either of those.

When I do ipconfig this is what is it giving me:
Connecting Specifig DNS:
Autoconfiguration IP Address: 169.254.221.55
Subnet Mask: 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway:

Thanks again

Carl
