Hi,

I am all up to date on my updates and my antivirus
program is up to date, and I can surf to antivirus sites,
but I cannot connect to Microsoft sites. I have cleaned
out my cookies and files in my Temporary Internet Files
folder and cleared the history, but still to no avail.
Any ideas??

Thanks,

interesting. what about sites other than the antivirus
sites? Can you navigate to those as well?

When I have a problem like this, I immediatly, use ping
and traceroute. In a dos window, (flag-r, then type cmd)
try the following two commands, their results may help
you solve your problem:

ping www.microsoft.com

tracert www.microsoft.com

if both commands execute properly, then make sure:
1. your proxy settings are correct (if applicable)
2. your antivirus software isn't acting as a proxy server
or otherwise interfering.
3. check your "security levels" in the options window of
IE.

I can navigate to any other site. The problem seems
specific to Microsoft. I have used trace route and found
that the route times out after about 9 hops. Pinging
gives me the IP address, but will time out.
If it is the security settings, why would it only affect
Microsoft sites??

And I'll bet that other browsers have no problem accessing
www.microsoft.com!
