i upgraded to xp after having virus troubles with 98. i got rid of the virus, got mcafee,a firewall etc. upgraded to xp. worked great for a few weeks..now aol stopped working-i contacted them, they said its xp.the comp works fine untill i get to the aol sign on screen, it goes frozen, i have to restart. i un-installed- re-installed..its hard to figure out whats wrong becuase i cant get online to go to the xp site, so i am here away from home doing it. also i seem to be missing shortcuts-things take forever to load..when i restart i cannot get past the disk checking page until it scanns the whole thing. i dont know if this is normal-in 98 i could just hit space and it would skip. i am not super computer savvy-and i can usually figure out what is wrong with a bit of help, but i need some advice if possible..do you think it might be just the firewall? it doesnt show any error, except when i restart without shutting down it says something about fat.32 i cant really tell you bacuse i am not at home!
