Often, your ISP is the best source of help for connectivity problems.
Ask them.

It could be a DNS configuration error.

If you enter the ip addresses

http://208.97.162.52/

into your browser, does it go to 3dcafe.com

If so, then it's a DNS error.

I think you will find that the problem lies with the driver for the
Speedtouch modem. They have release a beta Vista driver but I've seen
reports
on the hardware devices newsgroup that this driver doesn't work. You will
just have to wait until Thomson get their act together and issue a working
Vista driver. Considering that this is the modem that just about all the
ISPs issue when setting up new broadband accounts I can't see Thomson being
impervious to the pressures that the ISPs must be exerting.

Problem is you've gone from Microsoft's 2nd worse operating system to its #1
worst operating system.

are you getting an IP address from your router? If not, try configuring your
network adapter with a static IP address. My Uli based NIC in my vista
workstation fails to get DHCP addresses, but when configured with a static
IP, I have no problems whatsover. Other systems on my network get DHCP
addresses no problem. It appears to be an issue with the driver, for which
there is no fix at this time; just a work around.

It's 1:30 am and i finally got online- on my 1,300 dollar laptop i've owned
for 2 days. All i have to say is this: I DID NOT CHOOSE THIS CRAPPY
PROGRAM. It came on my computer and if i knew anything about changing stuff
on the computer i would find a way to get it off. I hope no one from
Microsoft wanders into my neighborhood tonight accidently because i'd
probably punch them in the nose. Oh, and thanks for the posts-to all of you
who know more about computers than I do.

I've bought a new laptop, with Vista on it, finally got the modem etc. from
my ISP, and still can't connect. Last night, I was getting a message saying
that the computer couldn't recognise hardware connected to the modem. This
was after I downloaded the new Vista driver from Thompson - not the beta
version. can anyone help - it's soooo frustrating. This is the first time
I've had an internet connection at home, and I thought it would be so much
easier.
