Hi All,
I seem to have a problem with connecting to the internet by a land
line. I use cable connection and settings have been set to obtain IP
and DNS automatically.

I have an alternate computer to try the exact same lan line and there
is no problem.

Also this affected computer could connect by wireless but not land
line. This makes it really puzzling.

As I have been meddling about with software like crap cleaner and
Ashampoo, I wonder if I have accidentally removed some necessary
startup commands. Or even registry as I was trying to clean my registry
up and also to clean the startup.

Is there anyway you could assist me to run some checks on my PC?

Looking for help thanks.

I'm a little confused by your terminology. Usually a "land line" means a
regular telephone line as opposed to a cell phone. Are you really
referring to your Local Area Network (lan)? That is what would normally
be used with a cable modem.

Do you have a router? The more details you can give us - your hardware,
your operating systems (including Home/Pro if XP and Service Pack
level) the more focused an answer you will get.

If the computer connected properly before you started "meddling" then
try a System Restore to before you did this. Registry cleaners and
"meddling" when you don't really know what you are doing can certainly
hose your system.

Can you ping the default gateway? if yes, can you ping a public IP? If yes, can you ping yahoo.com? Or post the result of ipconfig /all here.

How to troubleshoot the Internet Access issues
You just setup a network and all networking computers can see each other. However, you have one of some following issues:

1. None of the networking computers can access the Internet.
2. Only one of two computers can access the Internet.
3. Cannot access some web sites.
