Cannot connect Canon DV though IEEE 1394

I have a Canon ZR50MC DV camcorder and am trying to no evail to connect it to my PC though 1 of 3 IEEE 1394 ports. 2 ports are built into the M/B and the other is on my ATI video card. I have 5 different programs and 2 Firewire cables. This DVcorder has worked on my system in the past but now it does not. The only major chages I have made have been a DVD burner and a harddrive. Everything else has been software. My BIOS are up to date along with XP(pro), ATI video card, and NVIDIA drivers for the M/B. There are no conflicts in my Deivce manager and no indication that there is any issue with the IEEE 1394 ports.

My camera will connect to XP and the window which allows you to select which program you want to runs comes up. I open the program and attempt to capture video and get this message: "The Canon DV Camcorder device was not detected. Make sure the device is turned on and properly connected to your computer or select another device". or "One or all of the specified sources are not working properly. Check that the sources are confiqured correctly. (0xC00D1B8A)".
There are no settings or configurations for the Canon DV when I go into device settings. From what I can tell either my DVcorder is FUBAR or I have a confilict with something in one of the XP SP's. Which of these is giving me the problem I don't know. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I am in dire need of any ideas or advice! Thank you all in advance for reading this long post!

Camera not detected

You had / have the same problem as me - did you find a solution? If you did please can you let me know as I have no idea as to how to resolve the problem. I have change the firewire card and lead, the usb connection works to the photo card on my camera but not the firewire.

Thanks.

Tony
