Cannot close DOS window

Scott

I'll start using SecureCRT more now but I frequently use
the command prompt in XP to telnet into network gear. I
jack up the screen buffer lines to 2000. Every so often,
I won't be able to close the DOS window or even shutdown
my PC gracefully because of the DOS window. Just stuck.
Any ideas?

Thanks,
Scott

I generally don't like the Telnet client that comes with
WinXP (or any other flavor of Windows, for that matter).
It's clunky, and the terminal emulation is poor at best.
I'm also beginning to discover that some of the native XP
console networking tools are incompatible with some recent
security updates in XP.

Try Tera Term Pro. It's freeware, extremely stable and
reliable, supports terminal windows and buffers of any
size, supports multiple terminal types, and the terminal
emulation is very good. I even get colorized text screens
when running ncurses apps on my Linux box. It's also the
only Telnet app I've seen that allows me to remotely run
Emacs without scrambling the screen text, though you might
want to edit the keyboard configuration file to match the
remote tools you want to run.

Another handy feature is you can change the name displayed
on the window title bar. This can be really useful when
you've got multiple Telnet sessions open to the same
machine, and would like to quickly identify them from the
taskbar.
