When I try tp publish I keep getting the error message "Server error:Cannot
change permission for Browserrep.html. Why am I getting it and what do I do?

You need to contact your web host and have them check permissions.

I have this problem and AM a web host. "server error: cannot change
permissions...". Why does it occur?

I don't know why it happens, suggest you check with the Windows Server newsgroup if this is a
Windows Server.

Did you contact your web host?

Our plant uses RaQ boxes running Apache. If users EVER ftp's to their
webspace, as opposed to only using FP, the error occurs.
After a Google search I am NOT the only one who has this issues, but I would
like to figure out what is happening. Permissions appear to be
changing........

I said I AM the web host.
I want a reason for the problem....I think its a FP issue, not a server
issue. Probably more nonsense from FP and how it writes the htaccess
file.........
anyone know?

Is BROWSERREP.html a file on your site or is it a file that's part of a
Stats program you put on your site?

if it's a Stats file then mark it as Do Not Publish. You can do this in
FrontPage or get the free Selective Publish add-in at
http://www.jimcosoftware.com/addins.aspx

unless I dont know where to look, there is no file with that name in the site
space.

However, I am guessing that if FP is enabled, and someone logs in vis FTP,
they break the permissions. But where, what file and why?

If you suspect that the Server Extensions have become corrupt then you need
to run a repair on them from the admin screens or un-install and re-install
them.
