cannot change default font

Chris

When going to change my default font in stationary and theme button under
mail format the button to change the font is grey'd out. I cannot select
open it.
Can someone tell me how to repair this?

Do you have standalone outlook installed? That feature requires outlook be
installed as part of a suite.

Not a stand alone. It was installed with Office Ultimate 2007

I had a similar problem with Office XP/Outlook 2002 running on Windows XP
Pro, and another problem was not being able to change the "compose new
message" font even when the font button was NOT greyed out. Eventually fixed
it: in the main Outlook menu selected Tools>Options>Mail Format tab and in
the area called "Message format" unchecked the 2 boxes that refer to using
Word as editor/reading rich text.

For me, most problems seem to be when using Word as the HTML editor.
Sometimes you can leave the rich text option ticked and its OK. Having Word
as editor selected also seems to cause other problems, like putting header or
footer information from Normal.dot into the outgoing e-mail message - and it
does this without showing it during the "compose" phase.

Another wrinkle: initially Word seemed to work fine as the editor, but then
problems seemed to arise after I started using the highlight format in
e-mails.

Hope the above is useful to you too.

Thanks Heathcliffe, I will give that a try.

Have done a bit more work on this... the problem seems to be the same in (or
might be caused by) the part of Word that allows you to select e-mail
options: in Word 2002 (maybe same in 2007?) you can go to
Tools>Options>E-mail options, select "Personal stationery" tab, in the "new
mail messages" area there is the ability to set the font for new mail
messages - except on mine the "Font..." button is greyed out and the font
can't be changed. So I guess when in Outlook, deselecting Word as e-mail
editor works around the problem and lets you change the font - but only in
Outlook. In Word, it remains stubbornly locked.

In Outlook, check what stationery theme you have chosen. In Outlook
Tool>Options>Mail format, in the "Stationery and Fonts" area, see "Use this
stationery by default" list. The stationary seems to affect things. I
reverted to <blank> at the top of the list, and hey presto, the font selector
for new mail messages ungreyed and the font returned to normal.

Did not think of looking at that so I will make sure that setting is in
default. Thanks again Heath!
