Dell inspiron B130 laptop XP Home. Installed AVG free to get rid of some
viruses. AVG asked if I want to force removal of one of them and I clicked
yes. Now no reboot. Even in safe mode, the windows startup screen displays,
but then BSOD with message:

stop: c0000135 {unable to locate component}
This application has failed to start because basewhlw32 was not found.
Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I've Googled basewhlw32 and it returns nothing. I've put in an XP Pro disc
to do repair install, and windows setup comences, but when it says it's
starting windows, another familiar BSOD:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error
message...

There is some technical info listed at the bottom of this lengthy message,
but I don't know what it means. How can I repair this installation? Do I
need the original XP Home disc? I'm not sure if it came with one.
Thank you to anyone who can help!

Contact Dell Support. Also, find the OS disk that came w/ your machine. You
may have to reinstall the OS. Don't reinstall, tho, w/o advice from Dell
Support. The BSOD is very serious but not the end. Bear in mind, XP often
repairs itself. Multiple reboots may solve the problem. If not, a crucial
file (such as a driver or boot file)has been corrupted &
finding/repairing/replacing it will be difficult.
Also, if possible, do some homework. Find out all you can about the 'virus'
AVG reported. Often, you'll find out which files and registry entries are
affected. Stand by...more help is coming.
