Cannot Attach Attachments to E-mails

I cannot attach attachments to my Cox e-mail or if it does attach it takes
forever. I have no firewall and Norton 2005 Anti-Virus. This started out of
the blue about two weeks ago.
 
First -- turn on a firewall immediatly.

How big is the attachment?
How big of an attachment ar you allowed to send thru cox email?
How fast is your connection?
What does cannot attach mean? Error messages? What happens?
How long is "forever"?

You should never be online without a properly configured firewall active.
