Cannot add NIC driver -- The system cannot find the file specified

T

Tom

Ok chaps, here we go.

I have had a lot of problems with my machine lately, my machine crashed
everytime, so i replaced the ntoskrnl.exe from my install cd (SP2). That was
fine, but my network adaptors are messed up. I cant reinstall them either
(Uninstalled it, and now it wont reinstall) with the error:

There was a problem installing this hardware:
Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller

An Error occured during the installation of this device.
The System cannot find the file specified.

This also happens with my Buffalo wireless card (Chipset by Broadcom).

I also found something interesting. I monitored my hdd while doing the add
new hardware wizard. I found runonce was "Buffer Overflowing" . Main reason?
Lots and LOTS of entries for alf2cd.acm, supposedly a codec, but it is
looking for it in lots of funny places, My teamspeak2 folder, my system32
dir, etc.

How can i remove the stuff from the list? I have looked in the Runonce key
in microsoft/windows and microsoft/windowsnt but nothing is there.

202 01:01:37.765 runonce.exe:5152

All of which cannot be existing because i would have not copied them there.
I believe perhaps it is remnants of a virus/spyware that didn't get removed
and blew my runonce off the planet too.
(I later noticed that they were on my path. So windows runonce is trying to
find alf2cd.acm but cant, and is getting annoyed that it cant so it buffer
overflows).

Thanks
