Cannot add network user to folder permissions

I am trying to add a network user to the permissions for a folder. I
turned off easy file sharing and am in the basic mode where I can set
permissions.

I click permissions and then add and am presented with a box asking for
the name of the person to add as well as the location. Problem is,
when I click "locations..." I can only see one computer (the local
machine). I cannot see other computers in my workgroup. I cannot see
other computers on my VPN. How do I get these computers to show up
here so I can add users from them?

I am using winXP pro sp2 on all my computers.

You can't. Other locations would only show something if your computers were
also a member of an Active Directory domain [or NT4.0 domain I suppose].
Then you would have choices of local computer or the domain that your
computer is a member of or domains your domain trusts. You could add local
users/groups and then other users on the network would have to be logged
onto their computers with a user account that has exactly the same
logon/password as the user account on your computer. --- Steve
