cannot add computer to domain

When i try and add a computer to my domain that was a
member of my existing domain i get an error saying that
the information comflicts with existing credetionals or
words to that effect. How can i get round this problem?

remove the old account first. If it was a domain controller, use NTDSUTIL
to do a metadata cleanup.

Disconnect any mapped network drives.
Join a workgroup.
Join your new domain.
