Cannot acess cell formats

Is this a know problem? We have one computer that has
Office 2000 and the rest have Office XP. The Office 2000
user noticed that when an Excel file that was created by
an XP user is sent to her, she is uable to change or for
that matter open the cell format properties.

Is there a fix to this or is an upgrade necessary?

The only time I've seen this is when the original workbook was created in a
different program--crystal reports or Lotus 123.

I included a few "sacrificial" cells in my selection, made my changes to all of
them.

Then went back and fixed the sacrificial cells to the way they were supposed to
be. (Try a cell way out of the way of where the data really is.)
