I recently upgraded from Office 2003 to Office 2007 and while running 2003 I
had confugured a few rules. Since installing 2007 I am unable to get into
the Rules and Alerts config page - when I select it from the Tools menu I get
an "Microsoft Office Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience" error with the option to send error
report to Microsoft (they have many from me by now) and I am forced to
restart Outlook. Additionally the Office Session event log shows that
Outlook is crashing, but the Office Diagnostic event log indicates there is
no evidince of repeated problems. Can anyone help me determine what is broke
so I can access the Rules and Alerts config before I am completely buried in
e-mail?

We need to know what that error message says. When you get an "Illegal
Operation" or "encountered a problem" message, there is usually a "Details"
button, or a "click here" link to see the error report. When you click on
the button/link, it will give a message like: XXXX caused an error in YYYY
and a bunch of register nonsense or it will list the Appname XXXX and
Modname YYYY. The XXXX and YYYY are important to identify the cause and
solution. You can ignore the rest of the message.
