cannot access restore partition

After I installed linux on a second partition,
Windows XP started acting funny. After I tried
to fix Windows XP, it *really* acts funny. When
I decided to give up and invoke the restore
partition, it does not seem to be accessible.
I think it is still there. I can run fdisk and
see that it is locked (hidden, verbotten, etc).

My machine is a Thinkpad R40 laptop.

I want to run the restore partition. It is
suppose to restore the computer to the condition
that it left the factory.

Thanks,
Charles

OBTW... by the time I thought about the restore
function, (the built-in restore) it was too late.

Contact IBM for instructions specific to your model of computer.

You may have trashed access to the restore partition when you installed
Linux (with one of the boot managers I assume).

If you cannot invoke the restore option at boot time, you will have to order
a set of CDs (about $35) to rebuild your system. I "created" the same
problem on my ThinkPad last year, so I now run Linux on a separate swappable
hard drive.
