I am having problems on video.msn.com playing videos.
The page loads but does not play any videos. There is only an empty
interface.

The same thing happens when I click on a video link on MSN.

After the page loads it shows an error in the status bar stating >>

Line:293
Char:4
Error:The data is invalid
Code:0
Url:http://video.msn.com/video/htc/shell.htc

Is this problem with the website or is it on my end?
I don't have a problem playing videos on any other website.

IE6sp1/ windows ME

Did you try the solution from where you copied/pasted this on
7/07/05(video.msn.com) ...

*Make sure you have the latest version of Flash player installed.

<<I had "userdata persistence" disabled. I've since since enabled it and all
is well.>> This one worked for me.:-)

If that doesn't help try looking at your popup blocker if any or your HOST
file, to see if an entry is blocking it. Try disabling "global.msads.net"
from either your HOST file or popup blocker if applicable.

Thanks, Speedy G. I did use your post (after a little editing) the basis
for mine. I came across yours when I was looking for a solution to the
problem. My problem seems identical to yours.

Unfortunately, the same solution doesn't apply in my case because I already
had "user persistence" enabled.

There is a difference in our error messages--mine reads:

Line:293
Char:4
Error: The data is invalid
Code:0
Url:http://video.msn.com/video/htc/shell.htc

yours read:

Line:293
Char:4
Error: Permission denied
Code:0
Url:http://video.msn.com/video/htc/shell.htc

This problem has been ongoing for about 2 weeks. I've uninstalled and
reinstalled the latest version of Macromedia Flash Player, Windows Media
Player 9, Internet Explorer 6 SP 1, and checked my settings numerous times.
I've tried turning off my popup blocker and my firewall--nothing seems to
make a difference.

I was convinced that the problem was with MSN but if it is, there would be a
lot more people experiencing it.

I have SBC YAHOO for my internet access. I'm wondering if there could be a
conflict there that would cause it.

What is glogal.msads.net? I couldn't find it on my computer.

"global.msads.net" was an entry in my HOST file that turned out, was
disabling me to view videos via msn.com. I thought it would be beneficial in
your case also. In my case it was in the preconfigured HOST file that I
downloaded onto my computer.

When I had the video problem via msn.com, removing global.msads.net/* from my
HOST file fixed the problem.
ActiveX should also be set to prompt or enable.
