Cannot access internet-Explorer 6.0 corruption

After having a wired network installed on our cable
modem, we (within one day) could not access the internet
via our main pc running Windows 98 and IE 6.0 which had
been downloaded long ago(but could on our notebook with
Windows XP). After extensive time spent with the router
provider (Linksys Wireless G 2.4 Ghz) and our cable
provider (insightbb), we determined both were working
fine, but some corrupted file within IE 6.0 was a
possible source of the problem. I have reinstalled
Windows 98 twice and reinstalled Internet Explorer 6.0
once with no change in the problem. Explorer can not be
uninstalled and running the repair only brings up a
different dns error address in the Explorer address
window. I have a Word document showing what version of
Explorer and the messages I'm getting in the address
field if anyone would like to see them.

I had a similar problem, but with a D-Link wireless
router. Their tech support could not solve the problem,
and they even had me exchange the router. On a hunch, I
changed my ethernet card - which was working fine before
the router installation, and would still work when I took
the router out of the system - to a D-Link card. The
problem went away. I called D-Link and told them, but
they didn't seem interested.
