cannot access help and support center in win xp

First of all thank you in advance for your help, now for my problem.
Three days ago my pc slowed down considerably, along with a lot of hard
drive activity,I mean I could hardly get the mouse pointer to move accross
the screen.
I hit Alt/Ctrl/Del to bring taskmanager up and see what app. was running, but
it too it 3 minutes to load up,when it finally did I saw that something
called dump.exe was taking 80%(spikes to 98%) of the cpu usage with 58k+ of
RAM.
Took a while to highlight it and than hit the "End Process" button, like I
said mouse moved very slowly.Soon as it stopped I ran a virus scan(am using
McAfee antivirus w/firewall/antispyware) it hit on something called
win32bkdoor
something or other, didnt wrote it down and cant remember the full name, sorry,
But the scanner found several files infected with it and asked weather to
clean or delete,I chose clean,it than said a reboot was need it to complete
the process,so I let it reboot.Problem solved, or so I thought,an hour later
it start it doing it again.
Ran the scan again and again found several files infected, one was an Archive
for system restore, dissabled system restore, ran scan again cleaned
files,reboot it.
The problem now is that I cant acces win xp help and support center, when I
hit F1
a message pops up that says unable to access help and support center.
Also some files that were File type .dat now are File type probe Document.
File like ntuser.dat is ntuser.probe document(but its size is 0).
I know how to change a files association like opens with, and its attributes
like read/archive/or hidden, but how do I change its type to read .dat again?
and how do I get helpcenter back? I've searched for all instances of prove
document and or prove.exe as I think it might be an app. but all I've found
is those files that have been changed from .dat to probedocument,as for help
center it seems its still in the windows folder I just cannot access it even
when I hit start/run and type its name,
all I see its a flash of a black console screen ala DOS.
Its a long explanation and I apologise for that, any help would be greatly
apreciated.
Thanks again....
J.S.
