I recently had to reinstall XP using recovery disk, (at the risk of losing
all my files), to my surprise the files, the old profile is still present as
well as the documents and files (ie music, word docs, etc.). The problem is
there is a message box saying that I cannot access 'my documents' in that
profile. I am logged in as a user with Administrator rights. Is there a
work around or something that I have to uncheck?

Help and suggestions are appreciated.

You need to take ownership of the Files/Folders:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421 .
