cannot access existing programs afetr reinstall of XP

I had problems with a virus and was told to re-install XP Pro. I did that
and it eliminated the previous problems. Now I cannot run programs like
office, word, and others that were not supposed to be removed by the
re-install of XP Pro. The folders are on the HDD but I cannot open them. Is
this common and can I fix it without reinstalling these programs?

Hi Tgrai,
So you did Recovery/Repair not Reinstall?, did you get rid of the Virus.
I think you need to do Clean install for the Whole system, by Deleting the
Old Partitions then Format and Creating new Partitions.
The virus if not still there, then left behind is chaos, system files and
application corrupted and damaged applications.
Best option is ot do Clean Install and Format to wipe of all old Apps/Files
on your HDD.
