Cannot access certain folders

In an attempt to solve a network access problem on an XP
Pro machine I turned off simple sharing deleted all user
names and groups in the security tab and the sharing tab
and then tried to rebuild them. I lost access to certain
folders. I get an access denied error when I try to open
them. Is there a way to reinstate my permission to these
folders? Any help would be appreciated.
