cannot access anything in excel

when i launch the excel program the screen area which
usually has the cells is all grey and i cannot even click
on the toolbar ie file edit, view...etc.

i reinstalled office and repaired as well, but it still
does not work. even if i try to one an excel file by
double clicking on it, excel lauches, but thats it. i
cant click on anything.

any advice

You can't click on File|Edit... because you can't see them or you can click on
them, but nothing happens?

If you can't see them, maybe they're just off the visible screen.

Try starting excel and hitting
alt-space bar, then M (for move)
use the arrow keys to move excel's window (down???) so you can see it.

The doubleclicking, excel opens, but not the workbook:

Verify that the workbook isn't opening (once you can see the file|edit
toolbar!).
Window|arrange|tiled (and resize later)

If it isn't there, maybe it's hidden????
Anything under: Window|Unhide???

If no, try this:

Close Excel and
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /unregserver
then
Windows Start Button|Run
excel /regserver

The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's
factory defaults.

Then doubleclick on that workbook and see if it helped.
