Cannot acces anything in the CD-RW drive

Both I and a friend have SGI 320's running Win2k, and we both have the
same problem. We cannot access any CD's that are inserted into the CD-RW
drives. The drive shows up in Explorer, it just does not recognize any
CD's. I thought my CD-RW was bad, so I replaced it, and it worked until
I rebooted, then I get the symptoms above.

I have tried deleting the drive in the hardware manager, and on reboot,
the machine finds the drive, but I can't use it. Any suggestions on how
to troubleshoot this?

Error messages are a big help in determining what is wrong. Exact
wording of the message is even better. Try posting those.

I don't remember the exact message, but the OS was acting like there was
no disk inserted in the cdrom. Something like "No media present...insert
media into drive".

I did get this fixed on my machine by going into the Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, Computer Management, then to the Removable Storage
section. I went through all of the sub menus and found an entry for a
Teac CDROM (the original drive), and a Mitsumi CDRW. I deleted both of
these entries, uninstalled the CDRW, then rebooted. Everything is
working as is should now.
