Canadians Getting Ripped On Pricing

R

Reggie Hillier

I notice that the 9800XT is priced at $499 US or $749 Can on the ATI
website. If I do a currency conversion I get $499 US = $663.63 Can. ATI
should be selling them at the same price ( taken into account the exchange),
especially since ATI is a Canadian compsany !

Yep, that Canadian dollar has been improving by leaps and bounds over the
last few months so ANY price set a few months ago will be high in CDN$.
Your best bet is to buy from a company in the US that will ship to Canada
not just video cards but anything..

Don't be too surprised, Japan has done that for years.
Who do you think pays for ATI to be competitive in world trade?
The Canadian consumer!

Welcome to the weird world of currency. I was looking at a Canon camera in
the US for $999. Here in Canada it sells for $1599 it should be more like
$1400.

You might also notice the prices in Europe and even more so the UK are even
higher.

The HST in Canada is 15% where I live and you pay it on items you bring in
from the US or buy within Canada, so it would still be cheaper to buy it
from ATI in the US and have someone ship it to you in Canada. This is
because of the strong showing of the Can $ against the US $.

Par for the course given that we've been under Liberal rule federally for so
many years and are no doubt used to being ripped off by now.

Go to www.tigerdirect.ca they have it for $1322 which includes the kit lens.
Bought mine for $1599 2 weeks ago (bummer) but it's a fantastic camera.

When your crying in your Moose Head about how you got ripped off
by ATI you will still have free Health care. Unlike me with no coverage
and no job to pay for it. Makes you wonder what is really important.

I would trade any day.

I have to agree 100%. I'd gladly pay 10% more for every product in return
for better health care.

He said it was "free";
He didn't say it was "better".

for the tip.

If you are talking about the plight of American health care, I have to agree
with you. However, health care in Canada is not free...we pay for it
through taxes in a very big way. Try coming up here and earn some money and
be shocked at how much income tax is deducted. Also, not everything is
free...you must pay for prescription drugs, dental, optical, and ambulance,
etc., unless you have a third party plan of some sort (or Blue Cross who
generally pays for 75% of that). Still, even having said that, it is good
to be able to see the doctor or go to the hospital for no charge (outside of
taxes of course). Health care in Canada is very expensive and is under
stress but I hope it can be maintained. For me, I try to help by not going
to see the doctor unless absolutely necessary. Three years between visits
is not unusual for me.

Moosehead beer? I haven't had that for a long time. :)

Yep, looks like they've removed it, must have sold out. Keep checking though
as they might get more in, it was under the 5+ megapixel subdirectory on the
second page.

Depends what province you live in. In Ontario it is completely free
(real crapy service too though) and in B.C. it is $54.00 CAD per month
for a single person.

Yea, and in B.C they double dip. They get money for healthcare from
taxes but they also charge us. It's $54.00 per month for a single
person, plus the high taxes.
