Price of X800 xl AGP

Right now, I'm using an ATI 9800 Pro, but I have games
that might look better on the ATI X800 AGP. It's going
to be a couple years at least before I build another system, and I'd like to
try to improve the one I have now.
It is AMD64 3000+, 1 gig ddr400, SATA 160, and
will run Far Cry on all high settings except AA set to
medium, or the frame rate takes a hit. I've up'd the
settings on this system carefully while monitoring the
game, and I'm topped out. So, I would like to try the
X800, but I don't want to pay $300 for a card that
is clearly on its way out. When should I expect the
price of the X800 / AGP card to drop to about $200?
I figure by then I can sell my 9800, and get the X800
for a reasonable price.

Prices will drop when the R520 comes out. Was expected soon but has now
been delayed

One option may be to swap to a PCI-E motherboard and X700, selling the
9800 whilst it still has value and wait to switch video card when the
time is right.

i am sitting here with two PC's (two online mmorg (FFXI) feeds). both have HP f1903
displays.
one PC is x800pro agp, the other is xtasy x850xt pci-e (HP m7170n).

imho: you should follow that guys advice to spend you money on a pci-e upgrade and when
the x850 gets to a price you want to pay - go for that. I have my 9800pro's sitting here
in a drawer and I feel like putting the x800pro in the same drawer !!
the 850 is so much more card !! i think i got my entire 499.00 usd worth !! and i am
saving for another x850.

x800pro is in 3.2 ghz P4, 2 gig mem.
x850xt is in P4 3.0ghz "D" dual core, 2 gig mem.

I'm looking at that seriously. I can do it for $85 for the
new mobo from Mwave.com, but the PCI-E is whopping
expensive ( X800XT ). I can trade back to ATI and
get $50 off the AGP which is about $330 right now.
Still kind of steep. I feel sure the AGP is going to come
down .. or at least get dumped when the next generation
cards come out.

From a performance standpoint your proposed upgrade would be pointless (as
no real gains would be realized with that video card over a 9800 Pro) but at
least he'd be ready for the latest PCIe vid-cards.
