I have a word document that I would like to display the contents of on the
desktop on my PC. Is this possible to do? I don't mean a shortcut of the
document.

Hello Andrew:

Yes, this is possible. Simply click on the Print Screen key on your
keyboard and then go to Word and open a new document and either click on Edit
| Paste or use Ctrl + V and it will paste the picture of your desktop into
your Word document. I hope this has been helpful to you.

I think the poster wants to do the opposite - put the contents of Word on
the desktop.

It can be done by playing with whatever it is you want on your desktop.
Ultimately you need an image, such as a .jpg.

What about Active Desktop with a HTML page as a desktop image, with
inside this HTML page some kind of web control that shows the actual
file? I don't know if it's possible but this would semi-automagically
update the desktop when the file changes.
