My apologies, if this is not approriate forum, I've posted this to a virus
forum but wanted to post it too since I do have XP Windows and it might be
related. I have the Trojan.Agent.XJ on my computer, I run anti-spyware and
anti-virus and it rids it but then it comes back. It always knocks me off
the internet.
Please help!

Have your a/v run in Safe Mode, or schedule a boot scan if your a/v
software has that option. Avast! can be scheduled to do a boot scan..
This allows the a/v to remove the references and infected files before
they can store themselves away for the next boot sequence.

Stop SPAM! Create two mail rules in OE.

_First rule:_

A. In "Select the conditions for your rule" click "Where the from line
contains people", click "contains people", click Address Book, click
the first name, shift-click the last, click "From" button, click OK.

B. In "Select the actions for your rule", click "Stop processing more
rules". This will let everyone in your address book fall through to
your Inbox.

C. Name the rule "Pass".

_Second rule:_

A. In "Select the conditions for your rule" click "For all messages"

B. In "Select the actions for your rule", click "Delete it".

C. Name the rule "Delete".

You might want to set OE to delete the Deleted Items folder every time
you close OE. One disadvantage: You might have to close OE in a hurry
sometimes before you have a chance to check for missed messages.

Advantages:

1. No SPAM! No amount of filtering by sender or subject matter will
prevent spammers; they use a different subject and address ever few days.

2. Few Viruses! Only viruses from those who have your email address in
their address book.

Disadvantages:

1. You'll have to look in the Deleted Items folder for blocked email. If
you find a mail you actually want, just drag it into the Inbox till you
add that address to the Pass filter.

2. To add addresses to the filter, you'll have to edit it, click
"contains people", click "Address Book" again, and add any new
addresses. That can be an occasional nuisance, but otherwise you'll be
creating many mail rules for SPAM.

Joe,

I ran the A/V in safe mode and it came up clear! I ran in normal mode and it
found the trojan and deleted. Yet upon restarting Windows, the trojan
returned!

It's running on startup
Start | Run <type in> MSCONFIG <enter>

Under startup find the problem program, stop it from loading, reboot,
delete it

How do I do this? Do I type in "Trojan Agent. XJ"? Please advise...

Nother track..

Install http://www.ewido.net/en/

or/and

Download and run Hijackthis from this page http://hijackthis.de/en
paste the results in the space provided, analyze

Or

download and run Process Explorer
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html

Double click on the process(s), reading it's image and command line
will tell you where to find them. stop the process and delete the
file/directory.

Run Regedit and search for the file name(s) deleting them as you find
them.

Right clicking on the Process and selecting Google will describe the
process.

but most importantly stop using IE

We are more likely to help if you give a brief idea of the problem in the
Subject heading. As you can see there are a vast number of posts to this
newsgroup and only the most dedicated are going to look at every post - let
alone one that gives no idea of its content from its title.
